The SH7216 Series with 32-bit SH-2A CPU core offers a maximum operating frequency of 200 MHz, representing a 1.25-fold improvement in performance over the 160 MHz of Renesas Electronics’s existing the SH7211. They also include large-capacity high-speed flash memory and RAM through the use of cutting-edge flash memory technology. Featuring an on-chip power supply step-down circuit, these microcontrollers are designed to achieve lower current dissipation by suppressing the increase in current dissipation associated with higher speed, and attain 3.3 V single-power-supply operation while at the high operating frequency of 200 MHz. In addition, the SH7216 Series incorporates a PWM timer, 12-bit AD converter, LAN controller, USB, and CAN as peripheral functions.
The SH7216 Series lineup consists of the SH7216 Group (with floating-point unit (FPU)) and the SH7214 Group (without FPU).

Renesas Demo Kit for SH7216
The Renesas Demo Kit for SH7216 (YRDKSH7216) is intended as a user-friendly introductory and demonstration tool for the SH7216 microcontroller. The board also provides a useful platform for evaluating the Renesas suite of development tools for coding and debugging, using High-performance Embedded Workshop as well as programming the device using the on-board E10A-USB emulator.
The Renesas Demo Kit for SH7216 may be connected to the host PC using the on-board E10A-USB on chip debugging interface.
The purpose of the board is to enable the user to evaluate the capabilities of the device and its peripherals by giving the user a simple platform on which code can be run only minutes from opening box. It can also prove an invaluable tool in development by providing a useful test platform for code already debugged using one of our more powerful emulation tools.
The Renesas Demo Kit for SH7216 is also the hardware platform that is included in a special SH7216-specific edition of Micrium’s book on the µC/OS-III Real Time Kernel. The book and board combo targets serious programmers and college students who need to understand and create programs based on the timesaving features of a real-time kernel. Part I of the text covers the internals of the new µC/OS-III real-time kernel. The emphasis is on the internals, features, API calls, and where and how to use an RTOS, all presented in a clear and useful way, and accompanied by a wealth of diagrams. Part II provides specific examples for using µC/OS-III on the new Renesas SH7216 microcontroller.
This RDK is an evaluation and demonstration tool for Renesas SH2A and SH2A/7216 microcontrollers. The goal is to provide the user with a powerful debug and demonstration platform targeted at common applications. A set of human/machine interfaces are tightly integrated with the features of the SH2A/7216 and the software demonstration programs providing the user with an accessible platform to rapidly evaluate and customize.
